True of false: Jehovah's Witnesses' beliefs are not based on evidence or logic but on the AUTHORITY?

of the Watchtower Society.True of false: Jehovah's Witnesses' beliefs are not based on evidence or logic but on the AUTHORITY?
That would be a big TRUE

that brings to mind an organization statement that the Governing Body was better informed than Noah Was! Think about this: Who gave Noah his directives? The Voice of GOD. How arrogant the Governing Body is. Witnesses better start paying attention to what is right before their eyes.True of false: Jehovah's Witnesses' beliefs are not based on evidence or logic but on the AUTHORITY?
As you made billions of Christians look equally whacky.

Some research could save you from embarrassing yourself again.

I could get pimples anyway upon English Noah humbug.

Leviathan was no whale, but how could a monolingual bible

falsifyer know that - without Hebrew and Greek knowledge.

God's voice my butt. Tinnitus maybe.

True:

It kind of reminds me of the Catholic Church, they follow the Church first and the Bible second.

The Jehovah's Witnesses follow the Governing Body first, and the scriptures second, except they don't have the benefit of accurate scripture to follow.

I remember that when I was a Witness, I was told that you have to have the Watchtower Societies literature to gain truth out of the Bible....This is dogma that people should RUN from.
They have to do something because their New Testament was translated into English by someone that had to admit in a court proceeding that she could not read Greek it was supposed to have been translated from.
TRUE = It's called in the Bible, 'the blind leading the blind' - Matt. 15:14 = = and the end result, so Jesus tells us, is that they both fall into the ditch. How sad.
False.

Despite the protestations of anti-Witness activists, Jehovah's Witnesses consider the Bible to be the only infallible inspired means of determining God's will and purposes. Jehovah's Witnesses consider the Holy Scriptures as the final word in all matters of worship, and actually encourage their adherents to elevate the bible over the human traditions which pass as worship for too many humans.

(Matthew 15:3,9) [Jesus] said to them: “Why is it you also overstep the commandment of God because of your tradition? ...It is in vain that they keep worshiping [God], because they teach commands of men as doctrines.

(Mark 7:8) Letting go the commandment of God, you hold fast the tradition of men.

(Colossians 2:8) Look out: perhaps there may be someone who will carry you off as his prey through the philosophy and empty deception according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary things of the world and not according to Christ

The many fine publications of Jehovah's Witnesses could no more replace the bible than a pair of eyeglasses could replace the eyes.

False. If there were such a turn, everyone would be encouraged to look at the evidence themselves.

The beliefs I held before I became a Witness were definitely not based on logic- for example, I believed in a 3-in-1 God, who had a part that prayed to the other parts...........
As usual my freidns answer get deleted. teh wimpy jw's can't get there answers straigt and they are cowards. i'll post my friends answer.

True. I agree with you Nina. In fact, since watchtower beliefs take precedence over the Bible then if I remember right wouldn't that be idolatry? If I remember right, one of the Ten Commandments is ' Thou shalt not commit idolatry.'
This is true, their beliefs are based on whatever the watchtower society tells them. JW's are warned against independent thinking as the society calls it. They can even be disciplined or disfellowshipped for asking the wrong questions. They come to your home asking you if you want a free home bible study and they don't study the bible. The first thing they give you is watchtower literature. I thought when you have a bible study you use only the bible. They cannot function without that literature.
False
No religion is based on logic or evidence
Pardon me if I'm stretching an analogy, here, but this is a lot like saying,

';True of false: The Honda Accord's engine is not based on nuclear power or bioelectricity but on FOSSIL FUELS.';

Technically true, but why would you single out just kind of car?
The Mormons are just as bad as the JWs in this area.

Its really sad.

Satan has truely deceived these people.

Pastor Art
TRUE. Jw's are a cult and a misrepresentation of the bible. Have a nice night.
FALSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THE ONLY AUTHORITY THEY ARE BASED ON IS GOD'S!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!…
Same as Christianity, indeed.

But for some reasons they didn't follow

a Bible revision in the 19th century, that seems

clearly to contradict your 'sycophant' assumptions.

They are sort of 'late orthodox' - too late in my view.
';We are convinced that the WT is God's chosen vessel for dispensing ';meat in due season'; (WT 1/1890, p 1171)

';The Lord has a particular messanger commissioned as his representative'; (WT 6/1/1905, p.3570)

';Angels hear the instructions and then pass it on to the remnant; they have been doing so since 1919 (Vindication, V. 3, p. 250)

';The servant now acts under the direction and supervision of Jesus Christ (WT 6/1/38, p. 164)

';Avoid independent thinking. . . questioning the counsel that is provided by God's visible organization';. (WT 1/15/83, p.22)

';Fight against independent thinking';. (WT 1/15/83, p.27)

Inddependent thinking is condemned as dangerous because it ';is an evidence of pride';. (WT 1/15/83, p.27)

';To receive everlasting life in the earthly Paradise we must identify that organization and serve God as part of it.'; (WT 2/15/83, p. 12)

The point? The WT has belabored the same points since its inception: In order to be accepted by God, the JW MUST obey the org. because it is the only channel of communication from God. It is akin to the ark of salvation since one cannot be saved without cleaving to the org. and all of its teachings. To disobey, doubt, defect, etc. is death. Why? Because the WT SAYS SO. Period.

Is there any Biblical evidence that God would ever authorize an organization to be his sole channel of communication? NO. NOT ONE SOLITARY VERSE to be found anywhere. The WT is the authority JWs look to because the WT says they must. End of story.
Absolutely.

You are correct.

A couple verses about modesty have been made into:

Dress according to their rules at the Kingdom Halls, conventions, and in service with no exceptions.

1. Men must wear dress pants with dress shirts and ties.

2. Men cannot wear jeans or casual clothes to the Kingdom Hall.

3. Baptized men cannot have a beard in most places.

4. Men cannot have long hair.

5. A woman can't hold a position of responsibility in the congregation

6. Women must be in full submission to their husbands.

7. Women and small girls must wear dresses or skirts.

8. No skirts or dresses that are above the knee at any time.

9. If you are a woman you can't pray aloud in the presence of baptized men.

10. Cannot pray or be part of a public skit like presentation without a covering on your head.

11. Cannot wear pants to the Kingdom Hall if you are a female.

12. No pierced ears if male, other body parts if female.

13. No tattoes male or female.
Who cares what you think you have to prove with facts and the facts are that the same people who told you that are the same that is ivnvolved in politics and supporting the war and now supporting Mitt Romney.

and you want something more illogical than Trinity Jesus is his father his son ad his own holy spirit but three persons but one but not one but three.
';And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone'; Matthew 4:6

Here satan uses scripture to tempt Christ.

Now here is the scripture satan was referring to, Note what he leaves off.

';For he shall give his angels charge over thee, { to keep thee in all thy ways} '; Psalms 91:11.

Here is a picture of what the JW's do, and all that practice deception.
That Question Reminds me of the Following Nina:

An incomplete picture of God’s Word can be dangerous without the full picture, one could easily be misled into thinking that they are serving God while doing something diametrically opposed to his will. Jesus warned his followers concerning such remarks as mentioned here : “In fact, the hour is coming when everyone that kills you will imagine he has rendered a sacred service to God.” (John 16:2) The people back then may have been sincere in their killing Christ’s followers, but they were wrong. Paul tells us what their problem was: “For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God; but not according to accurate knowledge.” (Rom. 10:2)

Perhaps this speaks of Those against Jehovah's People..
A point of clarification needed re mesquite's answer: The New World Translation covers both the Old and the New Testament. Five men were responsible for this translation and only one had adequate schooling and background to function as a critical Bible translator. His name was Frederick W Franz. In a Scottish Court of Sessions trial in November 1954, he was unable to translate the Hebrew of Genesis 2:4 when invited to do so by an Attorney (Pursuer's Proof pp7, 102, 103).

Now, to your question. Christian beliefs are based on what God tells us in the Bible. However, those beliefs are not always logical! Take the doctrine of the triune nature of the Godhead as an example. However, they can always be backed up by evidence from God's word.

As a former JW I understand why they claim that what they believe is based on the authority of Scripture. So when we take the beliefs of the JW's and hold them up against Scripture then we can see whether or not their beliefs are Biblical. Given the way they have deliberately changed words in their translation of the Bible to suit their own beliefs, then it becomes clear that they are preaching a false gospel.

Regarding authority, I agree with you. The Governing Body tells them what to think, what to say, how to dress, how to live and anyone who disagrees had better look out. The fear of expulsion and shunning is used to keep people in line. Yet there should be no fear in love because perfect love drives out fear. That is not how the Watch Tower Society operates. Their final authority is not scripture - it is the Governing Body and the elders who carry out their demands.
You could make that argument about Christianity. In fact it would work. Minus the Watchtower part.
In what way is this different than any other religion?
False, our beliefs are based on the bible and history.

you are not right. what are you basing your accusations on.
Their beliefs are based on the Bible
Jehovah's Witnesses believe in the Bible. The Old AND New Testament. While they have published their own translation, ALL translations are valid and compared in study.

The Watchtower Society and Governing body are just men, their publications are HUMAN publications and are not claimed to be inspired of god. As such, Witnesses study the BIBLE and follow the bible's godly wisdom and principles.

Anything else you hear is false, made up by those wishing to discredit the bible and its followers.
Isaiah 43:10-12

If you would take the time to examine the watchtower and Awake magazines, you would find that the subjects are quotations from the work of others as well as studies from the bible. We examine what meanings can be drawn from the scriptures and have in depth discussions about what has been presented.

Anyone has the chance to interpret what they have learned.

However, we have also learned that Jesus was correct when he said there would be hatred and dissension about our working for him.

I have also noted there are far more misquotes from those who don't understand, than there are praises from those who do and cheer us on!
