Celtic fans sang ';You'll never walk'; alone years before liverpool fans. True or false? Any evidence?

False. Man U fans sang it first in their terraces in remembrance of the Munich air disaster.

True but not evidence and Celtic fan seems doesn't careCeltic fans sang ';You'll never walk'; alone years before liverpool fans. True or false? Any evidence?
the scousers stole it from united who first sang it in 1958.
true
another life or death question i see
There is overwhelming evidence that Liverpool Football Club supporters were the first to sing this song en masse. The song was famously covered by Liverpool group 'Gerry and the Pacemakers' in 1963. At this time, supporters standing on the Spion Kop terrace at Anfield began singing popular chart songs of the day. The mood was precisely captured on camera by a BBC Panorama camera crew in 1964. One year later, when Liverpool met Leeds United in the F.A. Cup final, the travelling Kop sang the same song and match commentator Kenneth Wolstenholme commended the ';Liverpool signature tune';. Liverpudlians have been singing 'You'll Never Walk Alone' since 1963. Fully 44 years.

Celtic sang it on one or two occasions during the 1970s, along with several other British clubs, specifically during crucial cup games. Then nothing worthy of note until 1989, when they hosted Liverpool in a fundraiser for the victims of the Hillsborough disaster. Both sets of fans sang it together as a symbol of unity and support. Only in the years to follow - as both clubs repeatedly came together in a series of friendly matches - did Celtic begin to sing it with any degree of frequency, otherwise they have no legitimate claim to the song, nor is there any credible evidence seriously linking them to it. Liverpool can adduce written materials and video evidence. Celtic only supposition and hearsay.

Manchester United supporter Jane Hardwick claimed in 2004 that she, together with friends from the New Mills Operatic Society, decided to sing the song at ';one of the games'; following the Munich Air Disaster as her own personal tribute, before spontaneously being joined ';by thousands of fans'; around her. This would predate Gerry Marsden's cover version by five years, if true. However, as one Liverpool supporter scoffed:

';Anyone who has watched/listened to Carousel will tell you that the composition and performance of the musical version with the popular Gerry Marsden version sounds completely different.';

Put another way, Hardwick may have been an aspiring opera singer, but to believe that the Old Trafford faithful belted out an operatic version of 'You'll Never Walk Alone' is patent nonsense. Moreover, nothing is recorded on film or in print media of this most emotional of moments. Her claim remains unsupported and, given the intense rivalry between clubs, deserves no serious attention.

And so in conclusion, Liverpool are both the first adopter and by far the most consistent singers. No other club comes close.

I was always led to believe it was Liverpool fans that chanted it first
Please refer to my answer in the Scottish Football section where this Q was also asked.

True man
Isn't it Liverpool's song?
yh yh true and also the manu utd fans did too
Liverpool
liverpool sang that first, celtic coppied them..so there stick that up your kilt and smoke it....
United fans were the first to sing this song for the players who died in the Munich crash. They were followed by Liverpool or Celtic. Both sets of fans have argued for a long time that they, respectively, sang the song earlier than the other, though Liverpool appear to have stronger claims as seen from the website which I have put down as a link below.
Celtic all the way! they sang this before liverpool, i have no evidence but celtic all the f***ing way! cmon CELTIC - through to the last 16 in champs leauge CMON!!!!
The first fans to use that chant were at Crewe Alexandra and it was only after that Liverpool adopted it as their own.
It was Liverpool FC who sang the song first, whatever the rumours or other stories of Man Utd/Celtic say. Check wikipedia link below.
it was man u who sang it first but you will never hear anyone sing it better than the celtic fans hail hail
fcuk knows mate but they are better at singing it

hail hail
False

The 1st Set of Supports who sang You'll Never Walk Alone'; was Manchester United for those who died in Munich, then Gerry and the Pacemakers released it as a Single in the UK charts and it was then sang on the KOP.

Then Celtic fans started singing it along with other teams around Europe.

I can remember the 1989 European Cup Semi Final 2nd Leg between AC Milan and Real Madrid. For the 1st 6 mins of the Game the AC Milan fans sand You'll Never Walk Alone and at the 6 min mark the ref blew the wistle for a minute silence.

It was the 1st game in Europe after Hillsbrough.
The song originally came from the movie ';Oklahoma';. Anyway Liverpool fans sing it much better. So there, stick that up your kilt.

Merry Christmas
no idea. the NBA celtics sure walk fine this season.
