If any evidence shows that what we believe is untrue then we should reject it as false...?

...Since our beliefs must be true.

QUESTION:

Isn't that why we're better than non-believers?If any evidence shows that what we believe is untrue then we should reject it as false...?
Well what makes you think you are better than the non-believers. That fact that you think you have the divine answer. When that divine answer runs against the evidence, you reject it.

Is your faith so strong that you are divine, or is it so strong that you are blind.If any evidence shows that what we believe is untrue then we should reject it as false...?
Answer is in your question... If you receive undeniable evidence that what you believe in isn't true then you know for a fact that it just isn't true. You can't really unknow something, it still has a huge impact on your behavior and how you think. When a person, as you say, rejects the facts for false, I've noticed that what they are probably doing segregating their minds into different schools of thought that one can switch between depending on whether they're at church or amongst peers, one example being science mode and faith mode. I think this is what most people do when their ';assurance of things hoped for, proof of things not seen'; is flat out disproven. Good on you if you have the mental stamina to keep that up though. Some people do go the extra mile, and subconsciously smother the things backed by facts. Such mental gymnastics doesn't negate facts that have set up camp in your mind, it just results in different behavior. I find that these people are either smug with the light of Christ or super duper belligerent if facts are brought up. It's not frequent that a person who is lying to themselves about facts is willing to sit down and have an honest and agreeable discussion about either science or theology.

There are just too many faiths with members all running around with a case of the warm fuzzies for their 'one true faith' for my comfort. My favorite crap counterargument to this is, ';it's ok! all religions have a little bit of truth to them, but we're still the right one!';
What a narrow way of looking at things. Why must our beliefs be true? Every single person has some beliefs which are not shared by others. If we are not open to the possibility of being wrong,then we are not open to the possibility of learning that we are wrong and then we can't learn more. There are so many examples of wrong beliefs,even to the point of people being killed because they would not conform to so called ';right';beliefs. The earth being the center of the universe. Or being flat. It sounds ridiculous today. There is nothing wrong with being ignorant about facts. What is wrong is being so narrow minded that you cannot learn more.
... so you are willing to believe that which is untrue, and you think that makes you better than people that are not deluded?
